My first pregnant situation! No, not me but one of my client's employee's is and I just want to clarify something.
She informed her employer and wanted to go on maternity leave at the end of March. However she didn't have a MATB1 form but has now got this and it's dated 15th March.
Does the 28 days notice start on the 15th or when she informed her employer at the end of February? The employer has no objection to her going on maternity at the end of March.

Hi John
You don't need the MatB for leave, just for the pay. The 28 days starts on the day or the request, be it verbal or in writing, depending on what the employer insisted upon.
If he has already agreed end of March for the leave, then he should have followed that up in writing or do so now. Or will he be already out of time?
I have a link to attract, just give me a mo (Soz, not on my PC, so will post separately otherwise will lose this lot above!)

Are they considering getting an advance for the SMP? I only ask because otherwise they have to wait until after the end of the tax year to apply and this will span two tax years.

Thanks Joanne, that's a relief. I think I sent her into a wild panic because she didn't know about the MAT B1 but fortunately was seeing her midwife and got the form, but I wasn't sure whether the 28 days started from the date of the form.
Yes, the employer will be applying for advance payment, already got that bit sussed. Should the maternity pay be paid weekly or monthly? At present she is monthly paid and I've just done the payroll to the 31st March, so her next pay will be in the new tax year anyway.

Hi John
Loving the new avatar, all spring like! I'm sticking with the summery one for now!
Stay with the monthly pay for the SMP, no need to change things. You will need to enter the MatB details into Moneysoft, which will then show you, even more than before, what a nifty bit of kit it is.

Once again Joanne, thanks. Sounds painless so I shall await with bated breath what Moneysoft does with the MAT B1
Good shout on the pensions increase. I have my first proper opt ins coming up on 1st May (postponed from February) I have a feeling they will both opt out straight away. The rest of my payrolls are all eligible workers and no one has opted in at all yet.
Haha Shaun. When I was a lot younger and even dafter than I am now and out in the country I would shout "Baa - roast lamb and mint sauce"

Although Shaun that mint sauce stuff is the devils work - bit like marmite. It spoils a bloody good bit of lamb!!!! (Or meat as we called it when my boy was tiny!)
