I know that the official advice is to work out the business calls and only claim for them, but in the age of smartphones and all inclusive contracts, can it be reasonably justifiable to claim the business use percentage of the contract, or will it now come under wholly and exclusive and nothing claimed at all? This assumes the contract is a personal one.
Would it be any different if the contract was a business one?

Any advice given is for general guidance and professional advice should be sought applicable to your circumstances.
Must admit I use a percentage of the bills based on what my clients say is their business usage, although I never claim 100% unless they have a completely separate phone and contract.

Hi John
Sorry for the delay, had family up for a few days and trying to work around them so only skim reading the forum.
For sole traders, it's as Doug says, ie include the mobile bill, just discount the personal use. But choose a method you can justify to the taxman if it's queried, eg percentage based on say 2-3 months actual use, then apply that percentage to the rest of the year. Review annually.

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
