How can something that sounds so simple like Value Added Tax be so damn complicated (on a train and decided to have a moan)

Surely if you are on a train Doug, then you have bigger things to gripe about! Trains!

Although if you dont get them very often they can be a novelty.

I prefer VAT to trains!

Do you have an exam by any chance?

Well at least you sound (almost) confident about this mornings. Sure you would have smashed it.

I love Law, wish I had followed that route when I was 18!

Ah, wouldn't that be great to have the knowledge that we all have now but to have been able to implement it then.

Maybe we should start a new post for if you were 18 again what would you do different? (work related only!)

 Cheers Duane

It was quite intense, 3 hours for an exam sounds like a long time but it always seems to fly by especially as it is all written which has never been a strong point for me, even worse is the 10 week wait for the result!

How are your studies going? Have you started CTA yet?

lol Doug,

takes me back to my papers. 3 hours never goes as fast as those sitting in the exam hall.

I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you,

All the best,

Shaun.

Hi Doug,

Yes, I'm currently reading the CTA OMB Advisory paper.

It's a beast.

I'd say the key is knowing how to use the legislation, rather than trying to learn the entire syllabus as it's so vast.

As you'll be ATT qualified soon :) you'll have a great grounding to move on to the CTA papers.

The ATT is the equivalent of all of the ICAEW's tax papers - that's subjective, but..

If you want a middle paper between ATT and the CIOT then read ACCA's P6 - it's more advanced than the ICAEW's papers. I know it is so as I have read it whilst travelling to work.

Tax is hard, but it is the most interesting aspect of our profession - I'm biased of course!

Hi Duane

Thanks for the information, yes I will move onto to CTA at some point but at the moment just going to do Law in the summer and then have a bit of a break from study (well that's the plan)

I have had a look at the CTA past papers and the Awareness ones seem pretty much the same as ATT however as you say the Advisory papers seem so much more involved and certainly more of a challenge

Good luck with your studies and let us know how you get on, are you sitting OMB in November?
