Received an email from Taxfiler today to say they have been taken over by IRIS, seems that they are trying to buy out everyone!
They do say business as usual and no price increases which seems unlikely, just wondered what others thoughts are on the takeover and how it will effect Taxfiler users.

Oh no!!! That spells disaster because without a doubt they will hike up the fees, probably next year, and then again etc.
We're very fortunate to be fair as for the small folk its affordable. I did look at BTC and keytime (just a couple of months before Iris bought Keytime) before I went to Taxfiler. I only have 4 or 5 Ltds so it wasn't economical, but with Taxfiler I have stuck nearly all my SA's on there as well.
Oh well, no doubt another young upstart will come on the scene.

Iris bought 12pay from Tom a few years back and I've seen no detriimental effect on that software to date.
A few years ago I would have written software to do this myself but HMRC now make everyything so damn complicated, not leat from the perspective of not telling anyone what format they want the data in until its too late to develop code to do it. When will they get it into their heads that software companies need 18 months lead time and that includes having full data specifications not eighteen months from announcement to giving out the details a month or so before go live.

First thought - oh bloody hell, here we go again, price hikes and perhaps some stripping of the good bits of the software, or more likely (as has happened in the past) no future development.
Second thought - I wondered if they hiked 12Pay prices. Not used that for about a couple of years or three, but thanks for the confirmation that there have been no probs Shaun. No I wonder if thats because Iris are listening (hahahahaha) or more likely if Tom (have I got his name right) built in some kind of conditions when he sold it?!!
Third thought - I will stick with it for now and see. Might be retiring or landing a different job before the need to move.

Re 12pay. The bureau licence is £130 + VAT but if you want auto enrolment its £251 + VAT. That's dearer than Brightpay which is reckoned to be the Holy Grail when it comes to Auto Enrolment.
Methinks I will stick to Moneysoft at half the price!!
Edited to clarify I was referring to 12pay, which I started off with but you had to pay extra for CIS add on, so I moved to Moneysoft (tight Yorkshireman syndrome!!) Just noticed 12pay still charge extra for CIS.

I liked 12Pay much better than Moneysoft initially (pre AE), but like you John moved when I needed CIS. CIS module (extra cost and other issues) was also the reason I didnt move to Brightpay and I did have several pops on them on here at the time (and in emails), so Im pretty sure with the way they move that they now have that lot sorted out. I not looked since, in part due to moving away from dealing with CIS. Obviously the AE bit of 12Pay has been since its move to Iris, so they get you one way or another.

I was speaking to one of the head guys at IRIS last week at Accountex and he said they dont intend to increase the price of taxfiler in the near future. They know it is targeted towards the lower cost end of the market and that any increase will chase people away.
As you know we have used IRIS for the last 3 years having been in a 3 year fixed deal however the renewal price was 42% higher than what we currently pay and was going to increase between 7-10% year on year going forward.
IRIS is a good piece of kit but we couldnt justify paying 42% extra then 7-10% year on year going forward.
We are moving to combination of;
Taxcalc (for accounts and tax) we used to be with taxcalc before moving to IRIS.
Glide (for practice management and timesheets)
Infusionsoft (for CRM and email marketing automation)
TheGap (for systemised business development)
Spotlight Reporting (for management account reporting and projections)
We are getting the above 5 pieces of software for the same price as the renewal price of IRIS. So getting a lot more value for what we are paying.
Flipping heck, Glide was £8 per month when I first looked at it, but had jumped to £19 a month when I went to sign up, then went up even more. Fair enough for yourself because that's not a bad price for 5 users, but no good to me as a single user. I like the look of accountancy Manager, but a bit too pricey for me at the moment, and for you no doubt at £150 a month. (Single user £31.20 + VAT)
I've stopping with Taxfiler for now, and will review it next March. My prediction is it'll rise to £20 then to £30 and they'll do away with the sub 50 price.

I spoke to accountancy manager at Accountex and really liked what I saw. If you sign up before 7th June, they are doing an offer of around £20.50 per month for a single user, so quite a saving
Thanks Debbie, can't see anything on the website about it (and just realised the £31.20 per month is the annual price. Its £39 + VAT if you pay monthly.
I'm busy for next 3 weeks then I'm going to give it a trial and then see if I can get a deal for the first year.

Hi Rob We have been using Taxcalc and Glide for a couple of months. Personally I prefer IRIS but the staff prefer Taxcalc/Glide for accounts/tax/PM and as they use it more than me happy to go with what they prefer plus being about 1/3 of the price works for me!!!!!!!
Will be looking to get infusionsoft, The Gap and Spotlight Reporting set up and running in the next few months.
