I think its a case of HMRC just seeing sense, which they never do and will probably just carry on regardless.
Took the CTA exam in early November and I can safely say it will be a fail, under prepared and thought I knew more than I actually do so it was actually quite nice to gat a kick up the a#se and make me realise how little I do know.
That said I reckon I walked out of the exam hall happier than anyone even though I knew I had failed because it made me realise that I did not want to continue with CTA, it just ain't me or the type of thing I will ever be dealing with.

Oh Doug - you do surprise me about not wanting to continue as I had this feeling you were taking to it like a duck to water, from your latest posts.
Shame.
Just think of all the spare time you will get back though.

Not yet Joanne. I have a client who was under the threshold and voluntary registered, but he went over in October so may not get the letter. Another client may get one but her first VAT return is due after end of December. I'm there a week on Tuesday so I'll ask.
I've had an email from VAT which presumably is being sent to all VAT reg customers, and I must admit the youtube video's it links to are really dumbed down. Had I not known how it all works I would have been scratching my head.
And the answer to your question is 2.67m (as at March 2018)

I will miss the study because between AAT & ATT I have always been doing something for the last 4 years or so, CTA is interesting it's just that I have realised it is not what I was expecting or the road I wish to go down, I love the tax side and all the computations but it is just too intense with writing memos and emails about subjects that I have no interest in and will have no use for in terms of my business.
I may well go back to ATT and take the optional units that I never did just for some CPD and to keep me busy although I have just became a Grandad so I have a feeling that this is going to take up a lot of my time as well as money.
I only have 2 VAT registered clients (1 recently de-registered) and neither has received letters although I do have another 2 who are rolling ever closer, however there was a post on Aweb the other day about people who had received them.

Wow congratulations Doug. I had you down as early to mid 30's and whilst it's certainly possible to be a Granddad at that age I'm assuming you're a bit older?

Cheers John,
I reached the fine age of 50 earlier in the year, all I've got to do now is to start acting like it

Thanks for the link Joanne. I've still got my head in the sand a bit with all this :( I've got 3 clients who are registered but haven't seen any letters/emails yet.
Congratulations Doug. You can't start acting your age now...'if you hadn't grown up by 50 you don't have to' so the saying goes :)

Hi Janet
No probs. Its my clients who have their heads in the sand - they all just work on the basis of 'Joanne will sort it'. Which is probably true.
Hi Doug
Congratulations Grandad. Thats fabulous news. Boy or girl? Must admit I had the same thoughts as John, well I put you a bit older, but when you talk about your children I imagined them as kind of primary school age.
You kept quiet about the big 50, you naughty thing! Couldve been cake! Act your shoe size not your age (did I get that a wee bit wrong?)

I'm 58 and still don't act my age. My mate is 55 and he's worse than me.
Walking through town one day and all of a sudden he put's both hands in the air and shouts "Woah" Everyone looks round and he does a little jig and continues "I'm a going to Barbados!! "
On another occasion he's at the Asda checkout and he points to me and says to the check out lady "We're getting married on Saturday. The lady looks, not quite sure how to react and he laughs and says "Not to each other"

She had a little girl, so now I have a granddaughter to go with my 3 daughters
You are right though my youngest is still in primary school aged 6 and the other two are 14 and 25, big gaps between them which shows how often I get it
The youngest is very impressed being an Auntie at 6
Hi John, life would be very boring if we were all to serious and its nice to know I am not the only over fifties child.
