I am just checking the amount I seem to now have to pay to HMRC for the Anti Money Laundering renewal is now £170.00! It now shows Approval for responsible people £40 and Trading Premises £130.00.
I have been registered at the same address for years. Now I seem to be needing supervised and my renewal is under review.
Is this correct?
Many thanks in advance.
Zoe
PS I have had the same clients for years and don't want any more but do I still have to register? I am a self employed bookkeeper.

Have you renewed yet as I thought that from May 1st HMRC was increasing the renewal up to £300, I renewed in April for £130 but they still have not taken the £40 fee

Not sure what you mean about the same address and needing to be supervised! If you only have 1 premises then this is the one that you are registered under for MLR, I renewed in April and my account is showing as 'under review' which still means you are registerred

Does not matter about taking on more clients or how long you have had existing ones it is still a legal requirement if you offer self-employed bookkeeping services that you are registered for MLR

Unfortunately, yes you still need to register. The £40 fee is a new one, introduced last year, and the beneficial owner needs to be an approved person. Anyone with an unspent criminal conviction for dishonesty will not get approval.
Now the bad news, have you already renewed or are you about to? The premises fee went up to £300 on 1st May, but if your annual turnover is under £5000 you can apply to reduce it to £180
(I have assumed you are renewing rather than applying for the first time, your wording is slightly ambiguous.

Hi Doug
I renewed mine in March and got an email today asking me to log into the account. Apparently when I did it I answered a question wrong. I'm certain the question was have you been approved (I have - last year) but apparently it said have you paid the approval fee (I haven't) I've gone back through the questions but can't find that particular one Tried to ring them at ten to five but they must have knocked off early. I don't suppose you can remember what the question was, can you?

They have also asked me to confirm if or if not I had paid for the one off £40 approval fee last time, which I have not because it was never asked for, but it seems that their systems do not have this on record and feel they have to ask.
But not heard anything back about the fee
HTH

Something similar happened to me last year and I received an email saying I had not answered a question and I am sure it was definitely not there when I filled it out originally (another poster on here had the same but can not remember who) so I went back in and filled it in, the only problem then was it took this new date as my renewal date so it looked as though I had renewed after when I actually had, hopefully they wont do that to you as it will put you past the May 1st date for increases.

Hi Doug yes I sorted it. Its the responsible owners tab and then you click on edit where there is a series of questions. One of the tabs is have you passed a fit and proper test and I said yes, when i should have said no. The application date has changed to today but I was assured the application is only paused, I wouldn't have to go through the waiting period again, so we shall see.

It was me Doug :) My date changed from January to May when they added the extra question last year (it definitely wasn't there originally!!!) Once it was approved it went back to the January date. If I remember correctly it took until Oct before I was approved!
I renewed in January and it was about a month after I'd paid the fee that they said I needed to pay the Fit & Proper £40 - I thought I'd avoided
