Whilst answering a question on AWeb I did a bit of rummaging around on HMRC's website and found a really useful URL and I thought people would like to know what it is.
Takes you directly (once you put in your gateway number and password) to the list of MTD software that you have authorised. It also allows you to unauthorise software.
If you are running an ASA or even just on a tax payers credentials it is useful to know.
I did a demo video about this (which is me gamecasting whilst using the HMRC test website) where the relevant bit starts at the time I have linked in this url:
The issue of managing authorisations will be a bigger issue as more things move to an MTD style. My video shows other "scopes" as well as the VAT ones. Self assessment is live as are a few, but about half in the video (trusts etc) are not live.
The start of the video which looks at error codes might also be useful. When the MTD apis respond they give a response code 200 and 201 are good (201 happens when a Vat return is submitted) 3xx are ok (you get those in self assessment), but the 4 series error codes are a problem.
it is worth understanding the error codes because all of the MTD software is getting these codes so if you know what each piece of software does for each error code it is easier to work out what is going on. The start of the video looks at using an API interface (where you type in the VAT number and a range of dates and it queries the APIs) to get error messages.
You could also do a same type of query for national insurance numbers to find out what data HMRC have for populating SA returns. I don't have production credentials for that at the moment, however.
