I'm giving a lot of thought to fees at the moment, and realise I am cheaper than I should be, but also conscious that I primarily deal with micro businesses, so need to be realistic.
Out of interest, as a rough guide, what would you charge for the following, (seen elsewhere) For those that don't know, I'm qualified by experience, but studying AAT level 3 and 4 from this month.
Electrical contracting business - Soletrader -Annual return -VAT registered (x4 returns to be checked and submitted via sage cloud) , all sales and expenses have been entered and reconciled (book keeping done) -PAYE for 2 employees (one is the same each month) incl updating pension (they NOW pensions) -CIS for x1 sub contractor

Thanks, just to clarify though, that's a quote someone asked for on another website, and I was rather taken aback by the price offered, albeit it from a chartered accountant.

I would probably say between £50 - £60 per month depending how the bookkeeping is, which I know is cheap but I work from home and have hardly any overheads, I don't use Sage so there may also be some software charges to factor in
Good to see you have started AAT, are you doing it through a training provider or self-study?

Ah I see. Can you share the link (offline of course if you wish).
Of course, chartereds can charge £xxx per hour, but I imagine there was also a race to the bottom type quote £29pm seems to be the flavour of the month.
Mine would be higher than Dougs.
i would hazard a guess for a start that the bookkeeping will be a bag of rubbish, given the occupation of the poster (from experience!!!).

Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.
You should check out answers with reference to the legal position
Probably fair enough on the tax return if a chartered but £50 a month for 3 payslips seems to me to be well overpriced.
A couple of weeks ago I was looking around different websites trying to get a feel on prices and finding quotes for tax returns alone between £160 and £325 so already knew I was too cheap, but I have a set price whether it takes me 1 hour or 10 hours (don't think I've ever taken that long though )
Hi Doug
Not as cheap as me!!! Would you be so kind as to send me a breakdown by pm? As I've already said I know my tax returns are too cheap, and following discussions with someone else offline, more than likely my VAT fee as well. I'm content with my payroll price; even though it's considerably cheaper than the chartered, it still comes out at a decent per hour rate.
I am doing self study for Level 3 but likely to use a training provider for level 4.

Hi John, I sent you a PM but at the end of the day if you are happy with what you charge and so are your clients then I don't see it as a problem
I know all the AAT courses have changed since I did them but there used to be loads of helpful resources for students on their site as well as practice assessments, quite sure they are still available from what I read on the forum which is also quite helpful if you are interested
https://forums.aat.org.uk/forum/
Plus plenty of people on of here have done AAT who I am sure would be happy to offer assistance if you need it
