Incorrect authorisation code

Morning all

 

Just received an agent authorisation code for VAT (not MTD under the threshold) from a client and when entering came back as incorrect, tried it twice and then phoned the online services who deal with queries of this sort on all the other taxes except for VAT so had to phone the VAT helpline and the system that deals with the authorisation codes is down and to phone back either later today or tomorrow, has anyone else had any problems with VAT authorisation codes lately?

Hi Doug
I did one almost at the death yesterday and it went through fine. Was a weird looking code, but it worked. Certainly not encountered any issues with the old system (just the MTD one on Monday as that was down)

Cheers Joanne, I will give them another ring later to see what the problem is, the code is definitely correct as I have the letter in front of me and it is definitely still within the 30 day period so who knows!

Apparently the whole Vat system is throwing a bit of a wobbler at the moment. There's lots of threads over on Accountingweb with people having various issues.

 I only read those as being MTD related, but Im not surprised if the whole lot has a wobble - its creaking at its seems.

MTD was only supposed to be down yesterday.   

Anyone checked for service availability issues on both counts?

 Hi Rachel, I did have a quick look over on Aweb so thanks for that but does not seem to be the same issue as I am having, just tried again and it is now showing as incorrect code and to ask for a reissue did not get a chance to phone them yesterday so will have to give it a go later today

Good morning, 

 

Some time ago, pre MTD, I had a similar problem with a VAT Authorisation.

I contacted HMRC VAT and was passed onto another section who confirmed they had a problem with some codes issued, being the letter "l" was meant to be a "1". 

I was asked to correct the code and try and whilst they were still connected and it worked.

Might be worth a try.

No 1 or I in the code so was not that but thanks anyway, did speak to HMRC but that was a complete waste of time as they kept telling me it was the home page that I was trying to log into and that I should try a different link but even with this it was the same, in the end it was taken out of my hands by just showing incorrect code on the authorisation page so I had no choice but to ask to have the code reissued so will wait and see what happens this time
