Ok as my practice begins to grow. Plus I have begun working for a very large family company (using quickbooks) my main tasks are CIS, PAYE, CT & SA with also doing full accounts for odd client to send to HMRC & CH.
Now I would love something that can do them all. I am considering QB. Is there anyone who can give me some wisdom. Right now I use excel, sage & tax filer too. Tax filer is getting annoying as HMRC accepted and I went in to then add auth code to send to CH and now being rejected and dont get why?
Thanks in advance. x

This has all been covered many many many times, try a search.
Be good if you joined in with the rest of the site, two way gets more help. Please do not say you are too busy, because if everyone used that reason no one would get any questions answered. Especially now when the regulars on her are fire fighting Sorry to be blunt.
Considering QB for what? Can it file your accounts? No.

I'm going to have to use a four letter word here - DONT
The only two I know that are all in one are Capium and Nosmisma. I've not used either.
Regarding Taxfiler, you need to give them your Companies House Presenter ID, do you have one? You then add the Company authentication no in the client section.

Sorry ive been selfish lol forgive me?? I use the site to answer questions I need along the way in my work. I thought it was the main idea of this. I would be nervous answering questions and getting it wrong or someone telling me off lol.
No more telling me off now im already in a fragile state and its too early for gin right?

The main idea of the site is to help each other, not for it all to be one way so Caron's comment is a valid one.
Now, I understand when people are new that they cannot answer many technical questions but there are a TON of resources on here, so perhaps a thank you to someone when you have read something useful, even if you didnt ask the question (loads of posts about CIVID-19 recently that you may have tapped into) plus there is the Friday light relief post that John does week in week out...so maybe comment on that, add your own funnies to it. It all helps EVERYONE's fragile state. especially at the moment, but even when things go back to normal.
I dont think it was telling off, she is correct - if John, I and the other small group (they know who they are), only asked....where would we be. No-one would get any help.
Out of interest on the Co House bit - how did you file your own accounts?

On the QB thing - Caron is right. You cannot file. Besides its pretty carp software as it is....slow slow slow slow slow. You cannot bulk input at the speed you can on Sage 50 or VT.
You dont say what sage you use - can you clarify please?
I use taxfiler but not for doing co accounts - its carp! Well its ok, bit basic, doesnt allow for all scenarios so I dont like to be restricted, so I just use for the filing aspect, after having dumped the iXBRL into it from another piece of software.
Companies House filing codes are from Co House.

i was joking in my response!! i thought the mood needs to be lifted slightly. forums (not just this one) lately seem to get very argumentative atm i often try to avoid posting due to that. if you prefer people not to use i think often your blunt reactions will def bring people away from this resource so go careful .. just advise pls dont react badly im not saying it in bad way often things are misread!! i wouldn't of posted if i didn't respect all of your opinions.
i file accounts through hmrc and click to submit to CH as well however this is changing now and wouldn't allow me to file this clients in that manner so used tax filer. hope ive not been doing things wrong.

Thanks for help John. No I dont think I have one? Is it like agent ID for hmrc? how do i sort. thank you xx
Hi Shoncee
You need to apply for one. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-companies-house-online-filing-presenter-account Then you can add that to Taxfiler once you get it.
If they're micro entity accounts you can log in to Companies House using your own credentials and use the authentication id and co house no for the Company you're filing for. Get the permission of the client first obviously.

Now their wonderful software can produc a VAT 'audit' report for clients - but not in draft! Which apart from saying in 21 pages what couldve been said in 5, doesnt actually show the correct VAT 100 report if there are any 'exceptions' (ie earlier unrec trans!). In my clients case they would be paying the VAT - when in fact they are due a repayment this quarter. What numpty dreamt that up!
Suggestion to fix it - drop it into excel and play around with it!! Right.
I can export a VAT return showing the correct info (which is actually the system one, it in itself looks really naff to clients) but I still need to 'explain' the dodgy numbers on the supporting report.
Im an Accountant, get me out of here.

I LOVE EXCEL & want to use it for everything (i wish) xx
You can
Excel can be all things to all people. For me its a development platform. If users are able to recognise that burried in there somewhere is a spreadsheet then I've failed.
It's great when you see managers jaws drop when they realise whats sitting under the swanky new system that they have delivered
Shaun.

Hi, Im new here and still going thru all the posts. I use Xero and Taxfiler, seems to be working fine. Have you tried it or have an opinion?
Thanks, Rups
Hi Ken, welcome to the forum. Have you checked with the moderator to see if its ok to use link marketing? It's best to check first.
I've used Xero and it's ok, but imo expensive. I've only dabbled with it briefly, when I took on a client from a chartered accountant, and all she was doing was keying in invoices, with a Junior adding all the other stuff. Client was paying £30 a month for the privilege, and to be honest it was overkill for what she needed, I moved her to Pandle at 1/5th of the cost.
That's not to say Xero as it's merits, for a larger small business it's probably good, and I didn't play with it for long enough to get more familiar with what it can do.
Looking forward to having a play with Freeagent soon. Got a client who will be using it (well I will) and I've heard positive things about it.
