Thoughts are my own/not to be regarded as official advice, which should be sought from a suitably qualified Accountant.

You should check out answers with reference to the legal position

Was just about to post that Joanne.

More details here https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/UKHMRCED/bulletins/2855257

They will need to be on your agent list for PAYE

There's also a webinar which will run through how the scheme works, well worth signing up for in my opinion.

Hi John,
Im also signed up for Wednesday afternoon, it was the first day showing available. Luckily I have 4 weekly payrolls so still have time although I have done one week of furlough pay as part of one 4 weekly. That was stressful enough so Im really hoping theres more guidance, especially in regard to holiday pay.
Hope everyone is keeping well,
Donna

Ok guys, scrap that last comment as I can see holidays have been confirmed. Which is what I suspected (nice to have it confirmed) but just goes to show - to take a day off to paint and you miss it all!

Mine is this afternoon at 4pm. I'll report back as to whether it's actually helpful!

Hi all

Hope you're all keeping well.

Just a bit of feedback on the webinar - they don't tell you anything that's not in the gov.uk guidance. Definitely more aimed at employers than agents, and just reading slowly through each section of the guidance.

They also said that the portal will be going live in the week commencing April 20th, whereas I'm sure I had seen the date given as 20th. Not sure if that's just HMRC being cautious!!

Helen

Hi Helen,

Thanks for letting us know, even if the news isn't fantastic. I'll still give it a watch, maybe there will be something in there that helps.

Absolute waste of time. As Helen said, nothing new at all.

Thanks Helen and Caron for the feedback.

I was rather hoping they would go through the process.  A question I had would be whether you have to input all employees per individual employer or was it just the amount you were claiming?

Hi John

You have to put in the name & NI number of each employee - can't recall if they mentioned that in the webinar, but it is in the latest update of the guidance.

Well that was pretty much a waste of time! Any questions about the nitty gritty were brushed off with the promise that there will be more guidance in the coming days.

Thanks for the heads up Helz, I'm glad I didn't go into it with my expectations too high!

Thanks Helen, they've updated that since I last looked.  Not a major problem for me as the largest one is 10 employees, but if you have 100 or 1000 employees could be a little tricky.  Hopefully there will be the capability to upload a csv file?

Hopefully!! I have a payroll where they have furloughed just under 100 staff - however, my money's on having to physically input each one no

Bad news Helen, you will have to input each one individually.  If you have 100 or more you can attach a file, according to the latest email I've received.

Total joke. File only agents cannot do. Businesses cannot do if no BTA. HMRC response basically swivel.

Really?  As soon as I knew you needed to do it through agent paye I added the two employers I didn't already have on my list, and while yes, I won't be able to file them on Monday, hopefully I will be able to by the end of the week once I receive the code.

Is it too much of an issue to set up a BTA up and add PAYE to it?  Again they may have to wait for a code but they should have already got the ball rolling.

What is the need? They claim GDPR! Yet we process them with all the same info that is needed for this system. Why should a business have to wait? Problem one I have got is they are not in to receive the codes. Do all of them actually know this is what is needed when they are fighting to keep their businesses alive? Its pointless bureaucracy.

Hi Caron

I'm not altogether sure how it could have been done differently, without leaving it open to potential fraud.  It does leave your client out on a limb though.

Actually I've just realised I could have been in the same boat.  Client has a cafe in a golf club, which he is unable to access until after the lockdown. Fortunately he is on my agent list.

Thanks John.

Found out my main problem one did have a BTA!! So just tagged on the PAYE - took seconds, no need for codes, so he can now process it.

Brilliant.  Wish I'd known about it before requesting the codes for my two.
