They've definitely found that magic money tree, then. Tell you what, John, I'm not greedy - I'll just have the £4,000,000,000, and you can keep the £1,730,000,000,000 ;)
But seriously...
I went through the steps so that I'm able to make a claim, so it's all set up ready to go, but the SEISS is for businesses that have been adversely affected... I *have* been affected, but not by as much as I thought I would be at this stage, and I'm still earning enough to live on. I expect that will change - but at the moment, the drop in income is just about bearable.
So *technically* I qualify, because my turnover has been affected, but because I'm still earning enough to get by it feels wrong - and because it specifies "have been adversely affected" that rules out claiming in preparation for the downturn I'm expecting.
So it's a bit of a quandary.

Hi Vince
I think it depends on the word 'adverse' and how you interpret that, most people have been adversely affected by the virus but there does not seem to be any Gov guidelines on the extent before you should claim so I would say if you are have been financially affected either over the past few months or are likely to be in the coming months then you should be eligible to claim.

I think Vince has more of a moral dilemma. I agree he's entitled to claim but is it right to claim based more on future projections than the situation as now?
Personally I say yes, because he has been adversely affected, no matter how slight compared to others, and knowing it's very likely he will be even more adversely affected further down the line.
Ultimately it's his decision though.

Its in an interesting one, as you say a moral choice, I just wish more people would use their moral compass as you are doing Vince, there is so much bending and breaking the rules going on out there at the moment and we will all suffer because of it. Legislation doesnt define 'adversely affected' so that isnt in itself restrictive although I do think the 'business which has been adversely affected' means it isnt forward looking. You have clearly been affected.

Morning Joanne
But would you not consider that if a business has had the jobs that were booked in to start over the next few months all cancelled would this not mean that they have been adversely affected by the virus?
