I was thinking of employing my Daughter for a few hours each week just to help out with some admin tasks and data input but my payroll knowledge is pretty basic and I try to avoid it if I can, so just wanted to run this passed you guys to get your thoughts.
Situation is that she is 16 and has her N/I number, she is now considered to have left school as her exams are cancelled due to Covid-19 and she will be starting college in September, she is currently employed doing a paper round which she will continue to do, my thoughts are that if I were to employ her then this would be classed as a second job and I would have to tax everything at the basic rate, is this correct if both jobs added together are still below the LEL?
She will be paid well above the minimum wage, is there anything else I need to consider
Your thoughts would be appreciated as always
Cheers

If the papershop is running paye then as Joanne says she can ask HMRC to split the code, but it may be they don't have anyone above the LEL (or just paying the paperboys/girls out of the kitty)

Thanks both, as far as I am aware they should be running PAYE, it is more of a convenience store and post office with a fair few staff
I will get her to fill out the new starter checklist and I had explained to her that she might have 20% taken off but that she would get this back at the end of the tax year which probably wouldn't be a bad idea as it is the only way she will save any (I am sure a car will be next on her list when she turns 17) but I will mention splitting her tax code and see what she wants to do
Thanks for advice as always
Cheers
