Hi

Please can you do an intro - we always ask newbies.

Usual stuff - what prof body do you belong to, do you work for yourself or in a practice/ firm, who is your MLR with, are you a bookkeeper or accountant, what qualifications, how long in role, where up to in your studies-what exams passed/with what body/in midst of doing, where based, what you did before this role? That sort of thing. Helps get to know you but also how best to pitch answers.

(^^Stolen from Joanne)

Do you have MLR?
Agent for what?

Hi Caron

Thanks for your message.

I am Sharon and have been in the accountancy world for 20 year working in practice. I have recently decided to set up on my own under ICB. I am QBE and sadly not taken any formal exams due to my personal circumstances.

I left the first firm for career progression having been Practice Manager there for 5 years which included running the bookkeeping team, calling in books and records for accounts, some accounts prep and loads of general admin. I went from there to Barnes Roffe where I headed their outsourcing team and from there to Beavis Morgan and now this.

I have now got my licence via ICB and have my insurances in place with FSB so slowly getting there. Website on the way and now looking for more clients. I have a couple that I am onboarding at the moment. Using Xero, Receipt Bank, Practice Ignition, Satago, Xavier and Futrli and then building on that as needed.

Please shout if you would like any more info

Thanks - I just needed to know about mlr. For anyone else reading this - you cannot apply to be an agent if you do not have MLR cover.

Sharon - I didnt want to waste your time applying if you didnt already have MLR, as that had to come first. You have it so thats ok.

Not needed Sharon.

My point was - you cannot apply for agent status with HMRC without first getting MLR cover. You have MLR cover - that fact will go on the application and HMRC will check it, presumably with ICB. So now you can apply for agent status.

If you did not have MLR - I would have given you the link for that, so that you are not acting illegally. But does not apply in your case.

Thanks Caron, I made sure I had this place before attempting to set up a Practice as I believed could not practice without it . I just assumed it would be necessary.

Thanks John, appreciated. I am all for automation and the use of technology to streamline so I can cover more clients without much additional overheads.

Thanks @Casu for pointing out my mistake.

You little tike Caron.

Jeez, how long ago has it been now since they gave up trying to push their wares on here.

No offence intended Sharon as there is always the experience override to whatever qualification people hold which is why we always ask for a short intro. Welcome to the forum.

Shaun.
