I currently work for a large company doing in house payroll, I am qualified in payroll and bookkeeping up to level 4 But the money isnt great so I am looking into working for myself in my spare time in hope to eventually be fully self employed eventually.
I have 3 clients already for bookkeeping but they now wish to add on payroll services. I am looking for help with how to choose a payroll service.
I currently use payroo in my full time work but I need a software that will allow me to log in and do payroll for different companies rather than setting up each company as an employer.
Have a look at Moneysoft, great bit of kit at a very cheap annual cost
Just as an aside, and I am sure you are probably aware as you say you already have clients but just in case you need to make sure you have MLR in place.

Hi Artois,
I have not actually gone live yet I am just setting up and the clients are just awaiting my day so as meetings all took place over past 2 weeks,
Forgive me I am going to seem like a complete novice in the game but MLR? Minimum lending rate? This is the first time I am planning my own things so I am quite out of my depth.
MLR is Money Laundering Regulations, and anyone self-employed offering bookkeeping and accountancy services must be regulated for this , if you are a member of a governing body then you may be able to get regulated through them if not you will have to apply to HMRC to get covered, but it is a legal requirement to have this in place before offering services.

I swear by Moneysoft Payroll, you can get a one month trial to have a play with it.
Others swear by Brightpay. Looks a lot more slick and is very good but also expensive if you only have a few clients.
Another to consider is 12pay (now owned by Iris) which I used when I first started 11 years ago.
Definite echo what Doug says about MLR, it's a legal requirement. However if your turnover is less than 5k a year you can request a £120 rebate once you've paid when doing it through HMRC.

Thank you both so much.
As I am just starting out in a field unknown (the having my own business) it was hard to know the dos and donts.
I have submitted my application and payment for the MLR and to be honest I wouldnt of known about it without the help of you two.
Thanks so much for recommendations and guidance e
Depends how you look at it :) It's good for us as I can quickly extract all my payroll reports from within the app. Plus my accountant can have their own separate profile too which does help make things easier.
