Brexit- VAT being paid direct to UK Gov from supplier?
Permalink Closed

Hi

A client forwarded an email to me today. He has received this from his supplier based in Monaco:

"Shipments bound for the U.K. across the Channel is subject to a £75 fee. Rather than simply bump our prices up and extra amount to cover this, we will be offering the following options:

1)  shipments will be invoiced with import VAT and custom clearance paid for by us - the supplier. A UK border service charge fee will be added for £75. There will be no VAT invoiced to the Dealer. VAT will be paid to the UK government from the dealer when the bike is sold. This service is up to 4 bikes max.

2)  Groupage will be from 5 bikes up and will be invoiced from new GBP pricelist including all customs clearance, duties and service charge fees. Only difference is that UK VAT of 20% will be charged on each invoice."

In Scenario 1. What code would best be used in sage 50? Scenario 2. I guess would be the default T1 code?

Thanks in advance - finding this all very confusing at the moment.

VAT is not paid to UK Gov.

You cannot re-claim the £75

You cannot re-claim duties, clearance nor service charges.

Sage tax code, correct? No.

You need to correct paperwork from HMRC.

Your profile shows you are in France.

What does your UK Accountant/VAT expert say?

Dont guess, look at the rules confuse

Thanks Maat

I know I was confused to no. which was why I posted on here looking for some advice.

I have now moved back to the UK and my question has now been satisfied without any pig ignorant comments.

Thanks for your input, I can see from your other comments that you clearly are not here to help anyone.

The people on here are asking for guidance. They may not know as much as you but that does not mean that you have the right to belittle them or treat them with disdain.

Try and show them a little respect.

Well done for calling out a bully! Best post on the site for a long while.

Sadly, this unmoderated site attracts idiots like these. A couple of them were called out for their behaviour and left (not thrown out), and another takes up the torch.

They are here to stroke their ego.

Oh, and woe betide if you don't thank them for their belittleing comments.

Oh come come Mr Green, you know yourself that the site is moderated, you just don't agree with the person who is the moderator!!

Whilst it maybe that  the tone you and the OP perceived from MAAT was less than friendly, I saw nothing in the post that suggested bullying behaviour.  Short succinct answers, which addressed the OP's points but didn't spoon feed the answers  (Something I tend to be guilty of)

You obviously lurk on the sidelines enough to know that two previous posters were challenged and chose not to post any more (or did they??????)  so why not join in constructively, i'm sure there's, er,  shed loads we could discuss.  smile

Thanks bazzer.  You were not looking for guidance, you were looking to be spoon fed. You took no care with your question, there was a clear information gap which did not enable a proper assessment to be made, infomation which I could have dragged out of you, but why should I? This was not a sage coding question first and foremost. You should have assessed the VAT position first.  Bookkeeping and Accountancy is not just stuffing something into software.  Thanks for your input, I can see from your profile that you have been around for a couple of years and added zero to this forum.

You are just a keyboard warrior, this profile and your former one. Yes I looked you up too, took a while to wade through all your malice and bad mouthing other people who have clearly been the source of much assistance.  You have never provided help to anyone at all.

People seem to like to post half the information on here and expect a full answer. Other folk call people bullies but use bullying behaviour themselves. OP and Green use personal attacks. Clear from history, latter has been banned for it, question has to be why is he allowed to remain?

Yeah, but s/he likes me, so it's not all bad lol.

On a general note, Caroline Flack killed herself just over a year ago following hateful comments on forums.  None of us know the person at the other end (although I've met 3 people on this forum and they were all lovely) so I think a little care from all of us professionals wouldn't be a bad thing
