Hi.  I have just come across this amazing forum.  I am looking to get a qualification in Book Keeping but unsure what the best option is.  I currently work for my family business and looking after all the admin, invoicing and payroll.  I have been here over 15 years but having just hit 50 I would like to look at stepping away from my family and obtaining qualifications for becoming a self-employed bookkepper.

I did the old YTS in secretarial skills back in the early 90s and having worked in admin since, but no other major qualifications apart from GCSEs.

I look after all the accounts side of things - I just send the end of figures off to our accountant.  Any advice on whether to look at ICB, AAT or IAB would be gratefully received - I would prefer to complete online.

Thank yousmile

Have a look at the AAT qualification. It has been revamped and brought up to date. Lots of online providers around - try accountancylearning.co.uk.

Are you suggesting the AAT qualification was outdated? AAT would be interested to hear that.

Shoudlnt you declare your interest in your recommendation?

A somewhat biased view but I would say AAT as that is the route I went down, although many years ago now.

I always see good reviews for the qualification from both people studying with them and from accountants/bookkeepers
