Hello, My name is Simon and I want to retrain as an accountant/bookkeeper. I am thinking about studying by reading and watching youtube videos. I have a phone app that helps with learning the double entry system as well. I would like to know where I can find current standards to be met for the qualifications. I have an OCR 1 book keeping book. However, the OCR qualification is now dead. So this book is a little old. What is the best current book to use for a beginner please? The OCR book has greyed out areas that indicate information specific for exams.
Does the book I study matter when choosing a qualification to take? I was thinking about taking AAT and becoming an accountant. I am not sure if this would cover bookkeeping specifically though.
I should imagine the details of VAT rules change quite regularly.
But have the fundamental principles of bookkeeping changed much in the last few hundred years ?

Hi Simon,
I'm in a similar position to yourself.
The AAT offer accountancy courses as well as bookkeeping courses,
there's a Level 2 course and a level 3 course (forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know)
