payroll software

Hi, All I previously used the HMRC basic paye software from 2017 and after that, I used a 12pay cloud-based free software for up to 10 employees, but now 12pay will be charging £5 for every month to use their software even if I use for  1 person for payroll.

However, I am trying to start using the HMRC basic payroll tool again, but it still has the previous year 2017 when I stopped using it. It will not let me start this year. If anyone helps how can I update and use it again? Or if anyone knows about other free payroll software out in the market I can use it.

All help will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi there,

Regarding the HMRC Basic Payroll Tool, you might need to update it to the latest version for the current year. You can check HMRC's website for instructions on how to do this or reach out to their support for assistance.

As for free payroll software alternatives, you might consider looking into options like Wave, Payroll4Free, or Payroll by Wave. These are user-friendly and offer basic payroll features without charges for smaller businesses.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

I understand your frustration with the changes in 12pay's pricing model. Transitioning back to HMRC's basic payroll tool can be a bit tricky when it's stuck in the previous year. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you update and resume using it for the current year:

Check for Updates:

Ensure that you have the latest version of the HMRC basic payroll tool installed. Visit the official HMRC website to download the latest version if needed.

Year-End Process:

Since you've not used it for a while, consider running a year-end process to close the previous year and open the current one. Look for an option or wizard within the software to guide you through this.

Reset Data:

If the tool is still stuck in 2017, explore options to reset or update the data. There might be an option in the settings or preferences section to bring it up to the current year.

Contact Support:

If you encounter difficulties, don't hesitate to reach out to HMRC support. They can provide specific guidance on how to update the software and troubleshoot any issues.

Alternatively, if you're exploring other free payroll software options, consider checking out platforms like https://www.xero.com/uk/try-now/payroll-software/. These tools often cater to small businesses and offer user-friendly interfaces.

Remember to back up your data before making any significant changes to ensure a smooth transition.

Best of luck, and I hope you find the solution that best fits your needs!

Many thanks.
