Is anyone aware of any live and in-person associations for bookkeepers? It seems like it would be a good idea to get a mentor so you can (hopefully) learn from their mistakes. This forum is great but I need an in-person mentor. Any ideas out there (or volunteers.. lol)!
I found a few writing mentors for myself using the phone book and Google. Whenever I found a freelance writer in my area, I'd send them a polite email asking if I could buy them lunch or coffee or something while I tapped their brains about the freelance business. Most people were really polite (even the few who said "no thank you"), and gettting to know other freelancers had the added benefit that they would sometimes refer clients to me if they were too busy to take on someone new.
