Im 16 and I've been offered 2 jobs. One is an office junior job with a local building contractor, making tea and general office admin. The other is with a local solicitors firm and will be working on accounts payable. The building contractor has offered to send me to college once a week for a business NVQ. No external training with solicitor job, but seems to be more focussed on accounts.
I am really keen to eventually run my own book-keeping business, and I want to make sure I take the right job for my goals.
If I was you I would take the job with the Building Contractor. They are offering you a salary plus a qualification. You may not initially be doing any book-keeping day to day, but in my experience this will come eventually.
An NVQ will give you a good grounding in business and will look good to future employers.
You can always take a part-time book-keeping course in your spare time. There really is no rush (you're so young!) so just enjoy yourself and your new job!
Just to let you all know I took the building contractor job. It's great because if all is going well after 6 months, they will pay for me to do the AAT course!
Again thanks for the advice. I hope as I become more book-keeping savy, I can contribute to this forum.
