I am thinking of doing the ABC course given by the AAT. I can see posts about IAB and ICB but none about AAT. Any thoughts about this course? Is it the same as given by IAB and ICB?
I have no experience in working in accounts. Every job advert I see , asks for experienced book keeper. So where should I be looking for a job once I finish with the course? Will I get any job at all , and is it going to be frustrating.?
I was considering looking for someone , who might give me practical experience as I study the course. Is that possible?
The AAT is an junior level accountancy qualification. It can be used as a stepping stone to becoming a Chartered Accountant (ACA or ACCA). It is a very tough but highly respected qualification, hence the reason it is so popular. It differs to the qualifications offered by the IAB and ICB in that book-keepers generally don't offer taxation and associated tax planning services, whereas many AAT members do. The ABC course offered by the AAT is a very good introduction to the theory of book-keeping and is comparable to that offered by the IAB and ICB.
Everyone who starts in accountancy or book-keeping initially starts with no experience. The best thing to do is to get in touch with some accountancy recruitment agencies who specialise in placing trainees in practice or industry, and have a chat to them about what you're looking for. You may want to try someone like Hay's, Reed or Nigel Lynn. They should be able to point you in the right direction.
