Hi all, I'm new on here so bear with me! I'm currently studying the AAT Diploma, have just passed the first exam and am already well on my way with the next Unit, previous to that I completed a computerised (Sage) bookkeeping course. I am really keen to start getting some practical experience to back up the theory but as I'm stuck at home with the kids am not really sure how to go about it. I would like to start up bookkeeping from home but am not sure if I have enough knowledge to do so. Any hints and tips on where to start, how to charge, what records I would need from clients and what they expect back from me would be really appreciated. Also is it worth approaching some local accountants to see if they would be willing to outsource some basic duties to me?? I think I have got the knowledge to do it but at the moment am really lacking the confidence so any help at all would be great. Thanks Peggy
I was in the same position as you and I offered my time to a local accountancy firm free for one day a week. They accepted and after 2 months of proving myself and learning the ropes I was offered paid employment. I'm still only working 1 day a week doing basic bookkeeping and accounts prep but the practical experience I've gained is proving invaluable. I too hope to start my own biz in the future and this has given me the start I needed. May be something you want to consider?
