First post for me and I'm new to book-keeping too so please excuse my ignorance.
I am a complete novice and I want to study for a book-keeping qualification through distance learning. It is important to me to get a qualification that is well respected in the industry and accredited by a recognised institution. I've read many of the other posts in this section of the forum and apparently this is what a lot of people are looking for but to which there is no simple answer.
It seems to me that, for people in the UK, IAB tops ICB if you want book-keeping accreditation but if progression to accounting is desired AAT ABC is the best starting point. Please correct me if I am wrong here or if I have missed another major accrediting institution.
My choice of course, course provider and accrediting institution is complicated by the fact that within the next 12 months I will be emigrating to New Zealand. I have three questions and any feedback on any of them would be gratefully received:
1) Which accrediting body is most recognised internationally? 2) Does anyone know which qualifications can be studied from abroad? 3) Does anyone know of any course providers that will allow me to start the course before I leave the UK and then continue from New Zealand?
If anyone knows what the equivalent book-keeping qualifications are in New Zealand then I'd be really pleased to hear from you. I can't seem to find a New Zealand based book-keepers forum to ask them directly, well not a forum as good as this one anyway.
You may want to investigate the following websites which should give you more info (NB: Austrlian bodies/qualifications are normally recognised in New Zealand):
AAT Australia (which covers the southern hemisphere) - www.aat.org.au
Institute of Certified Book-keepers of Australia - www.icb.org.au
Try sending them an email as they should be able to answer your queries.
