Hi all, I am new to this forum. I have many years experiance of doing my own accounts and book keeping. However I have recently decided to start my own book keeping business, to this end I have purchased the Bookcert business package to help me kick start my business quickly. In addition to that I feel it would be worthwhile doing a book keeping course to give me a complete refresh of the work involved. Not sure which course to take ICB or IAB, I do not want tuturial support, just text books to work through and complete the course in the shortest possible time.
I should think that if you have a certain amount of experience already that you would only need to do the level 2 course. My course material from Ideal Schools is quite self-explanatory so I,m sure if you could buy the course material you could teach yourself all you need to know. Also you can get past exam papers with answers so you would be able to test yourself to see how well you,re doing. I am still studying my ICB level 2 at the moment but I,m sure if you ask on this forum some-one may be looking to sell course materials.
You can purchase `Practical Bookkeeping` beginner/intermediate book from ICB £22.00, this book takes you through levels 1 & 2 manual bookkeeping syllabus. I used this to complete my ICB levels and found it to be straightforward and easy to use.
Thanks for your replies. I am considering doing the ICB course, just out of interest how long does it take to do the complete course, assuming a good knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounts, I am aiming to use just text books.
If I was you I would have a look at a couple of the level 2 exam past papers and this would give you an idea of what you need to know. I know for the ICB exams the questions are pretty similar. This will give you an idea of what level of ability you need to reach.
Thanks Corinne, I will take a look. I am correct in thinking that you can go straight into ICB level 2 computised bookkeeping and obtain a practicing certificate that way, without having to do the Level 1, tried to contact the ICB direct but the girl I spoke to wasn't that helpful.
Please disrigard last post, have spoken to ICB again and got through to someone who was a lot more informitive, so I will be doing level 1 and level 2.
