I thought it was time to introduce myself, I signed up to the forum a while ago. I have my own bookkeeping business, Amblecote Bookkeeping. I have qualified with ICB, level 2 in both manual & computerised bookkeeping.
At the moment I am still searching for that elusive first client !!
I've taken out several free listings on internet directories, and have attended a network meeting with the local Chamber of Commerce. The trouble is I'm in that catch 22 where I have no funds for advertising until I get some work, but it's hard to get work without advertising !
I was thinking of sendling letters to local accountants to get some work, but to be honest I'm a little nervous as I don't have any experience ! Again one of those situations...no experience no work, no work no experience !
Welcome to the forum. I am in a similar situation, although I have experiance but no formal qualifications, I am currently doing ICB, looking to do Level 1 & Level 2 computing in the next 6 weeks.
I am just about to start marketing my business, I intend to write to local accountants, put about 10 small adverts in local Newsagents and Post Office's window's (free in most cases) and a couple of cheap adverts in local advertiser mag's, costs vary but should be around £20 - £35 + vat per month, you need at least a run of 3 months to get any response though. You can post free adverts on Yell.com (Yellow Pages) and Thompson Directories in the classified section. Whilst you may not have any experiance why not offer to do free work to gain experience first with your local accountants, say on a one months trial basis after which the accountant can either say yes I like your work and you can come to an arrangment over fee's or he may say you need some more experiance in certain area's.
