Professional Indemnity Insurance

Hi all,

I have been a self-employed bookkeeper/accounting technician now since May 2006.  Hitherto I have no PI Insurance and realise that I really should have!  I have just read a posting by member Steve in August where he had obtained a quotation from Hiscox for £250k of cover for £190.  I have just obtained an online quotation for the same level of cover and it came out at £404.25!  Have premiums really risen that much or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim

£404.25 does seem very expensive in my opinion. Have you tried getting other quotes as premiums can vary quite substantially. I don't pretend to be an insurance expert but I believe differences can be down to qualifications, previous trading history and the level of excess you will accept. It may also be worth contacting an insurance broker who will be able to do the shopping around for you.

Dustin

Hi, thanks for your replies.  Julie, I just got a quick online quote from Trafalgar and there's was half the cost of Hiscox, and with a specially geared policy for AAT members in practice so thanks for that.  I do think that I will also contact a coulpe of local brokers and see what they come up with.

Thanks both.

Tim
