'Signing off' accounts of a Parents Council
Permalink Closed

HI
I am not a book-keeper, but do have a professional accountancy qualification (CIMA) although I am not, at present, a member as I chose not to pay the subscription as I am now a teacher.

My son's parent council asked me to look over their accounts.  I put them into a Receipts and Payments account and Income and Expenditure Account, but now the treasurer is wondering whether I can 'sign them off'.  Does anyone have any experience of this?

I'm not sure if I can because my membership of CIMA has lapsed.

I think a lot of it depends on the amount of funds they have and who the funders are. I used to be a community development worker in a past life, and with no official bookkeeping/accounting training we were able to sign off the accounts for most of our community goups.
