Hi! I wonder if any experts on Excel Spreadsheets could help me?

I have created a simple self calculating spreadsheet for clients and their employees to claim expenses.

When they claim mileage, the total mileage is multipied automatically by .40p to give the total claim. All is fine, until they get to the 10,000 mark.

I need a formula to insert in another box to sweep any mileage claim over 9,999 into a seperate box to claim at .25p instead of .40p.

I would really appreciate any ideas!

This is a bit rough, but hopefully you get the idea.  Put this in the box for milage over 9999.

=IF(C2>9999, C2-9999)

Just to help a little more if possible.

You should be able to use a single formula along this lines too:

=if(C2>9999,9999*0.4+(C2-9999)*0.25, C2*0.4)

Not tested it, just written it here and C2 is the total miles.

Depending on your spreadsheet it may be something you need to do accumulative and then on the difference for a mileage claim say each week or month.

That is a really big help as well. Thank you so much. I have only just discovered this site - and it has proved useful already.
Also it is really nice to think, as I work at home battling with receipts, that I am not alone!!
