Im very new to bookeeping and currently doing my first year with IAB in bookeeping. I work full time but not as a bookeeper. The reason for doing the bookeeping course is firstly that I like it and secondly that I would like to eventually start my own business as a bookeeper moving away from the industry Im working in a the moment.
My fear is that because I dont have any experience in this field that I cant really put myself out there as a bookeeper even though I will have the qualification this year. Has anyone any experience in starting up with no experience and how to go about it?
Excited and unsure and in desperate need of some encourgement from those that have gone before me.
Everyone has to start somewhere, and for quite a few book-keepers this means starting with little or no 'practical' experience. You do of course need to know what you're doing and this is where a book-keeping course comes in, which will help you to improve your book-keeping knowledge.
Please do feel free to post any questions on this forum should you need assistance.
Thanks Guy for the prompt reply. I guess I dont have to think about it too much until I complete this year's course. I thought I might go down the route of volunteering my services for free for an initial period as a way of gaining experience. Of course, Id love to work in an accounting firm but it would mean giving up my current job which is well paid and Im reluctant to do this in the light of the current credit crunch.
I guess I can ask around the neighbourhood and speak to my tutor.
