new buisness vat

confusehi everybody i need some advice im just starting a new buisness well taking over an established buisness and i have got to be vat registered can i only claim vat back on company purchases or can  i claim it back on anything that i pay vat on?

You can reclaim VAT only on expenditure incurred by your business that has VAT included in it. If you had to pay for any expenses relating to the business prior to taking over e.g. solicitor fees, you may be able to reclaim some of the VAT back on these as well.
