Just thought i would share a recent experience i had with a new client.
I was taken on by a client a few months ago to bring his books up-to-date and generally give him an idea of the financial position of his company, before i started he said he was having to introduce his own funds regularly to keep the business afloat.
After bringing his books up-to-date, analysing his expenditure and doing a cash flow forecast, i was able to give him an indication where he was going wrong, what expenditure he would have to cut back on and how much sales would have to increase.
Some out there just think a bookkeeper is a number cruncher and sometimes undervalue them but in this case i was able to give him useful information to enable him hopefully to turn things around and continue trading - he employees 12 people.
So to all bookkeepers out there, keep up the good work.
Thank you for sharing. It is great that you were able to help him stay in business. I think that sometimes people bury their heads in the sand, they keep paying bills and hoping that their sales are enough to keep them afloat instead to taking a step back like you did, getting everything down on paper and identifying the businesses problems and solutions. Thank you for the inspiring words.
Thanks for the uplifting post Nigel - just what I needed following a three day weekend! A great example of the value of information and the role that we bookkeepers can play.
Thanks Nigel for sharing your valuable experience. Other than those information that a bookkeeper can provide to their clients, I believe experienced bookkeepers who have sufficient exposure in tax matters may simple tax services.
