Hi everyone - I've just received a quote to study level 2 & 3 ICB manual bookkeeping from the Home Learning College £1,600, I nearly dropped through the floor.biggrin.gif

I have just finished studying level 1 and 2 manual through The Learning & Skills Open College and it cost me £832. I am also studying level 1 and 2 computerised and that is setting me back £1140.00 - not cheap at all but I do pay monthly by direct debit so that helps.

All I can say is:

"DONT DO IT!!!!!!"

I did this, and I am really angry with myself for it. The support was non existent.

I would suggest you get Business Accounts by David Cox, work through it. Then order some past papers and do them.

You'll save a fortune and have the same support as I had for well over a grand.

Wow that is a lot of money. I am distance learning ACCA CAT course and that is about £200 per paper, although I am not sure if that same syllabus needed for ICB but you are working towards accounting technician level.

OMG - that's far too much

you can get the two Kaplan text books from the ICB and it'll cost you around £70 for both and they cover levels 2 & 3

a couple of past papers to round off your studies should be plenty

The Kaplan books are a little cheaper if you get them from them direct or sometimes you see them on Ebay

Thanks for your replies, I was really shocked with the quote they gave me. I studied with Home Learning for the ICB level 1 manual & ICB level 2 computerised bookkeeping, which was quite expensive but much cheaper than what they've quoted for the manual levels 2 & 3.no.gif

DON'T DO IT!!!!!

Apart from the fact HLC are rubbish, I just bought the Bookkeeping book from Kaplans for about £27.00, a copy of the Business Accounting book off Amazon for about £15.00 and taught myself. I got a merit so I can't have done too bad a job!!

I started with essential bookkeeping from the National Extension College. I found the course pretty good overall from a beginners point of view, however I found the text book contained lots of printing errors/spelling mistakes which put me off a bit. But no where near as expensive as you stated.
I also bought Wood and Sangsters business accounting volume 1 which really gave a different perspective on many of the topics and also had a lot more practical questions to try.
