i am new to this forum and would like some advice concerning going into bookkeeping. i have been unemployed for a couple of years now and i am getting a little fed up with it. is there distance learning courses you could recommend ? also reasonably priced ? how long does it take to train to a good standard ?
I have studied up to level 2 in both Manual and Computerised Bookkeeping long distance with the Learning and Skills Open College. Looking back now I would have shopped around more first, they were very expensive (about £2000 for both of them) and I have been finding mistakes in the text books which I found very annoying seeing as how much I paid to do the courses.
I have studied level 1 & 2 Manual, and used Ideal Schools, who are pretty reasonable, but on advice from this forum I have decided to (try to) teach myself the computerised level 2 course, as it is significantly cheaper than going through a provider. I will however go back to ideal schools for my level 3 manual. It's useful getting feedback on your assignments, especially in preparation for the exam. I guess if you did want to cut a corner, it may be worth considering a text book for level 1, but persoanlly I would use some sort of provider for level 2, especially with a formal exam at the end of it.
i want to thank you people for the quick reply, i will have a look at the different providers and see what they have to offer in terms of training. Do you think this bookkeeping might become like driving instructing where you have these big companies conning people into paying lots of money but hardly get the training at the end. Well i hope not.
