need some advice, ive been looking at bookcert business kit which looks fantastic and according to everyone thoughts on here its well worth the money.
I intend to start up my own bookkeeping business, ive no professional qualifications apart from accounts gcse and sage courses i was just wondering if this would be enough or should i look about going to college for a year or two before starting on my own? And if this is the case then what courses would you recommend?
I had no prior experience of bookkeeping before I started to study from home through a learning provider. I studied level 1 and 2 manual bookkeeping and took and passed the ICB exams for these. I am now studying level 2 Computerised bookkeeping (Sage) again through the same place and I am working for myself as a self employed bookkeeper. Going to college wasnt an option for me as I am a fulltime mum to two small boys.
Personally for me, I wouldn't have been able to start up as a self employed bookkeeper if I just had a working knowledge of Sage. I think that most sole traders and small businesses who new bookkeepers aim for have no need for Sage, it is far more complicated than they need and a simple spreadsheet or cash book will be enough. It is good if you are able to use Sage, but you need to understand the figures that you are putting in, know why you are putting them in certain accounts and understand how these transactions affect the business. That is just my opinion
