Which professional body

Hi everyone,

I apologise for the duplicate posting of this thread, but I posted in the wrong topic section.

I'm after a bit of advice, I'm interested in starting my own book-keeping business. I'm a full member of AAT and have worked in various roles from finance clerk to company accountant but due to redundancy, have been temping for the last year, so basically I want to take charge of my working life.

I'm relatively new to the world of accounting (3 years) after spending 10 years in the Army. I thought of joining one of the 2 bookkeeping bodies but am unsure which one is the best.

My reasons for joining are:

a: To increase my professional recognition
b: To have wider professional support
c: To network

I have been offered fellowship of one of the bodies but wanted to gauge people's opinions of the two before I make my decision.

Look forward to hearing from you!
