If the business is cash rich, then why are they having problems paying?? Just a thought.

Call the Business Payment Support Unit 0845 302 1435 which was set up specifically for business struggling to pay PAYE/VAT/Corp tax and you can make a payment plan, but just cannot defer tax indefinitely, which would also be stupid anyway.

First post - Hi

You can work out a payment plan with HMRC, however, you will be subject to a daily interest charge worked out on the outstanding balance.

If you go via the BPSU, there should be no charges/interest unless you default. I have been using them since the budget last year and do not know anyone who has been charged anything. HTH.

I took over a client last year whose previous book-keeper had not paid for several months leading to a large amount of arrears. When this came to light I arranged a payment plan on which we have not defaulted, however, the client is being charged interest.

I think that is a different situation as the client had already defaulted and you would expect to pay interest on payment plans like those.

However, if you feel you have problems and call the BPSU just before you are due to pay, they will set up a plan which will not incur charges.

Possibly if oyu go through the local office, they may see things in a different light.
