Hi all,

Havent been on here for a while but thought it might be nice to share some positive news.

Since starting out in May I now have 2 clients and have two accountants that would like me to take on some of their bookkeeping work...and thats without trying too hard.

Although I have accounting experience, I am looking forward to getting stuck into more variety of work, which will hopefully give me more confidence/experience to do more.

That is great news! I started up in April and found a client straight away and then I got another client who I started work for on Monday.

Hi Julie,

First of all, congratulations on winning some clients!

Are you using MS Accounting Express? I understand it is rather slow but it depends on what other programs you have running on your PC/laptop. One local accountant states there are certain transactions it can't handle so unless you are dealing with large companies or complex transactions you should be OK with it.

Good luck.

Regards

Peter

Hi Julie

Congratulations on winning some clients.

With MS Accounting Express I know some people who say it is good package and they even prefer it to sage. I did not like it when I used it for a client who did not want to purchase software, it was incredibly slow, it randomly crashed PC so had to reboot computer. I found it was not as user friendly then sage but that is possibly because I had used sage for many years first, would say if you are new to computerised bookkeeping then microsoft accounting would be more user friendly because you not comparing it to another accounting package.

Don't know you guys know but you can download a free version of QuickBooks Simple Start, which I have found to be "friendlier" than MS Accounting and you dont keep getting all the start up stuff at the beginning.

It's a full blown multi company program. It does have limitation, the CoA isn't customisable and it only allows 20 sales and/or purchase accounts but it's really good for smaller cash type businesses and it's free.

Thanks, I have Sage anyway, MS was recommended by an accountant. It was slow to download but I will have a proper look at it later. I have used Sage for years so may just stick to that! Thanks for comments :)

Hi there. I'm new to this and have just picked up this thread. I don't know about anyone else, but I've downloaded the trial version of Solar Accounts and I really like it. It's better than MS Accounting and I actually prefer it to Sage which I'm finally getting the hang of. I really like MYOB, but as they've pulled out from the UK market I don't know how it will have changed since they've passed it to another supplier.

Hi Julie,

Well done on the clients. I did use the microsoft package but found it to be very very slow to do anything.
