I have practising certificate as AICB (comp) and professional indemnity insurance through their recommended insurer, Trafalgar I think.
As I have a lot of previous experience in accounting practice (used to be ACCA) I thought I would now just be able to update myself on self assessment and payroll and then I would be able to offer self assessment, payroll and accounts preparation for small unincorporated businsesses.
However, having looked at a few threads on here I am worried that I am not allowed to offer anything other than basic Bookkeeping as an associated member of ICB. Like not even anything like prepayments/accruals or accurate management accounts.
I don't want to have to pay out too much more money on qualifications if I don't need to.
Could anyone clarify for me what I am allowed to offer or make any suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Carole

I am not sure if this applies to you with your ACCA qualification but the ICB professional conduct rules say that you can't carry out work you are not qualified for (I am assuming they mean ICB quals). AICB (comp) will basically restrict you to computer software company set up and data entry (and looking at the syllabus, year end for sole traders) and not cover you for manual systems, partnerships or Ltds. Trafalagar also ask you if you intend to carry out work not covered by ICB, again, they will only insure you to your qualification level (or up the premium).
Some people here have gained their quals through getting a good accounting book and past papers from ICB. I would think you should be able to go down this route and upgrade quickly and simply with your past qualifications and experience. You may be eligible for an ICB exemption also.
Sorry I couldn't give you better news.

Thanks for your reply, I have the mock paper for the computerised diploma and I am finding it quite straight forward. I just need to get a book or do some research online to answer some of the manual questions so hopefully I can upgrade quite quickly like you said.
