As it says on the tin, I have completed tax return thanks to help from Dustin and Shamus online, but can't figure out how to get tje code, that is all I need now, arrgghhh!
I believe you will need to get your client to request the authorisation code online at hmrc.gov.uk. This normally takes a few days to arrive so if you're lucky you may just get it in time for the 31st.
The annoying thing is that with the lower end software packages e.g. Ftax and also HMRC's own solution you need the authorisation code to file online. According to my friend who users CCH, with the higher end packages e.g. CCH you can file with just their UTR. So a solution may be that if you know someone using CCH (maybe also IRIS or Sage) they could file it on your behalf? Just a thought
I have tried since 2008 to get one, they sent a letter with code that got lost in post back in 2008 and then they would not re-issue and after hours of phonecalls I gave up as could catch the paper deadline for returns back then, having got a new client just before christmas had to get the code sorted, luckily they have now changed this, after hours of phone calls several departments I managed to get my SA code which then let me go online to request the next lot of codes which come by letter.
For working for a client you need to have client compete and sign and return to tax office a form 64-8.
I have now worked out have to do the 64-8 on line! as follows:
Once you've logged on to your HMRC account click 'Your HMRC Services' in the top left and then there's an option to request an authorisation code. This then gets posted to your client with 7 working days!
Hopefully code will come in time, if not I will have to post the form!
Client is due a refund so at least I don't have to worry about that part!
