help, I have been thinking I not sure how to go about this, i am waiting for the code for 64-8 but not sure if it will arrive in time, is there anyway the client can call them themself and ask for the code?. I think it will be too late to file the paper version! as the deadline for that was 31st oct, or unless i have evidence to show that I have done enough to try to do this online, but i dont know if hmrc would agree ,with this! argghhh!
what have others done in this situation, its a last minute client you see! I not even sure what to tell the client, do I tell them they may recieve a fine????
They are due a tax repayment!

As far as I am aware having a client sign a form 64-8 they don't get the codes, you are supposed to get agent code. The tax office are supposed to send you the letter with the codes but think the system does not work quite right.
After phoning several departments of the tax office this number 0845 605 5999 was able to look up to see if I had an SA code, he then got us to hang up the call and this person rang us back as a security check to make sure we were who we said we were he told me this SA code which then let us go online and request the next lot of codes.
Your client will get a fine if tax return not filed by 31st January even if he/she is due a tax repayment but if the tax office tell you they forgot to send the letter after you had client sign a 64-8 you may be able to appeal against any fines.
As far as i know once an online 64-8 has been requested this then gets sent to the client via post, im pretty sure but now doubting myself a bit!. I may have to purchase software to enable me to file without 64-8 in place.
