I have entered auth code for client, but forgot to get do the 64-8 what can I do now!!!!!!!, I think i have completely messed up!!!now i can't send it!
don't know if it's going to be any held but as HMRC are working tomorrow and you're close to getting it sorted give them a call and see if you can work something out. (They're in today but probably pretty busy)
There's supposed to be a 24 hour turnaround in emergency cases (see below from page http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/workingtogether/publications/wt-38.htm).
all I can say is good luck and hope it works out.
Shaun.
"A 24 hour turnaround for SA agent authorisations was introduced between 5 January and 31 January 2009. Over 130,000 paper 64-8s were successfully processed within 24 hours of receipt in the Central Agent Authorisation Team (CAAT). As the majority of 64-8s are now processed within CAAT, we have been able to adopt this 24 hour turnaround target as 'business as usual'.
We also put in place a fast track Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) process for the newly self employed. 15,000 applications were successfully processed, significantly speeding up our processing times.
For cases where a paper 64-8 had been submitted but not processed, we introduced an 'emergency 64-8 fax' facility. This saw over 2,000 applications submitted and, where the application was appropriate and the information complete, authorisation was put in place within 24 hours of receipt".

Not sure if they will still accept faxed forms because they received bogus calls trying extract information.
unfortunately, there is an article on there website but it has a broken link so I couldn't read all the details. (If you just type in 64-8 into the search facility it's the 3rd item down)
panick over! i purchased some software that would let me do this without 64-8 in place!. and it cost £17! all done now, I have learned quite a big lesson today, and am sooo grateful for your reponses, even though i chose a different route in the end. But I don't think i will forget the 64-8 again in future, doh brain! lol
I am feeling really stupid and bad about it, i shouldnt have forgot that how stupid am I! but relieved at the same time, I can't believe i done that!
I am going to be grateful now that it is all sorted out.
At least i managed to sort without causing any problem to the customer lol i will pretend nothing happened! lol
At least the software was cheap and i can put through as an expense to reduce my tax bill!

thats ok, I am sort of glad it happened as now I know where to purchased software which enables you to submit tax returns without a 64-8 in place or an authorisation code entered. So I'm glad, sometimes HMRC software is a nightmare, I know it's for a reason, but I just love the Andica software for it's usability and flexibilty!

Hi Lor,
What info did you need to submit the return without the 64-8? I've had a quick look and the software seems very good value. I have always used Taxcalc, which is excellent software but more pricey.
I needed UTR, NI no, the normal address, bank details for refund etc.
That was about it really, the usual stuff that hmrc ask for.
But you will need to enter the government gateway user name and password also to submit to hmrc.
That software is amazingly cheap for what it allows you to do. I think I will purchase every yr now near the tax return deadline just for the ease and simplicity. I may also purchased further software if required thay also do partnership software.
Another thing they do is after i purchased the software last saturday within 2 hours they sent the activation code for the software to work, so they seem to be good on customer service too.
must admit its a little strange I was updating my services with hmrc and thought i would check a clients details, then i noticed that the client that i was told "you can't file their return because you haven't sent off a 64-8" I now have access to all his details and it is showing authorised, why i don't know, it is a good thing but im a bit confused as last week i was told i didn't have access???
Perhaps it is because I used 3rd party software to submit the tax return, but i dont really know vera, lol!!!!!!!! lmao!!!

Does anyone know the difference in this or taxcalc. I always thought tax calc was the best. How can you complain at that price, seems a bargain. Might purchase it myself..
Yes I know, I think next jan I will just purchase and be done with it, its alot more hassle free than hmrc and also it is easy to use. I think it looks like the tax return form that hmrc send out as opposed to the online filling system, so its not difficult to follow.
Not that I wouldn't mind whether it was similar to the old form or online system, they are both straight forward to follow.
And you will receive confirmation like to do when you submit via hmrc. So all in all wicked software.
Lashel I was complaining more about hmrc, the fact that the other week (30th jan!) they told me I couldn't access the clients info, but now I can!, just a little confused to why its changed.
I have never used taxcalc so I can't compare.

Ive looked into the 2, the price you purchased over covers 5 returns, the next level goes up to £25 etc etc etc. Tax Calc offer £100 all in for unlimited use. You just have to weigh up how many clients that you have. I do some year end work also which is then passed to the accountants so you just have to go with which is most cost-effective I suppose.
