Moving On from IAB to AAT - Exemptions
Permalink Closed

Hi!

Have finished IAB Level 3, and want to go on and qualify AAT asap. I have years accounting experience, but distance-learning colleges will not exempt me from the last but one AAT level because I don't have much costing experience.
I thought because at AAT, each level is divided into units or papers I could just do the costing one, be exempt from the others [fin.acct etc] and go onto the Technician stage.[final]
AAT tell me to go to colleges which decide on exemptions. Colleges want me to enrol for whole of Intermediate level and pay for it and waste money and time on stuff I have done before.
Can anyone please suggest as way out?
Aslo, anyone know what the NVQ equivalent for IAB Level 3 is?

Thanks

Hi,

I had a similar situation but coming to AAT from a higher supervisory body.

Try some different colleges. I tried BPP and KAPLAN before going to Premier Training, Both of the formers wanted me to start at intermediate but Premier listened to me rather than their bank manager and were quite happy for me to start at level 4 provided that I also took paper 22.

I wanted to do the diploma route but Premier convinced me that I should go the NVQ/SVQ route. I hadn't realised before but at the Technician level if you take a certain set of options there are no skill tests to set at that level. Just 5 exams and a project.

Your case might be different but I have found Premier to be very helpful and professional... They're also very reasonably priced as well compared to some of the others.

Just email them, explain your situation and see if they think that you qualifiy to go straight in at level 4.

good luck,

Shaun.

Hi Amanda,

not quite signed on the dotted line yet as I'm waiting for the ACCA results to know which days I'll be available to sit exams on with the AAT.

When I do sign up it's definitely going to be Premier and that came from one of your recommendations some time back, so many thanks for that one.

The other one in the running was Ideal schools I think from recommendation from Bill but they don't do AAT, only CAT.

Found out whilst doing my searches that HLC (queue star wars dark side music) currently have over 2700 students studying AAT with them. (shakes lowered head in despair).

Just wished that one could do AAT without a training provider so I could spend my money on important things like G.I Joe figures for my boy (he is sooo into G.I. Joe & Transformers at the moment).

Talk later,

Shaun.
