Im hoping that if i outline what i would like to achive someone may point me to the right course!! ive been looking at all the different training courses / accredition bodies etc and its pretty daunting.
Im hoping to start my own small book keeping company eventually but in the meantime I need to keep my husbands books in order and learn how to do it, pretty much from scratch but with a bit of basic profit / loss knowledge from years ago. i want a qualification that is recognised both for my own business and for if i need to get a job, the AAT seems to be the one to go for and Ive found  premier training who do a home study course 'the book keeping programme, inc AAT Level 2 in book keeping. How does this sound? Ive looked at the ICB and the IAB and both sound ok but not the same overall recognition as an AAt qual seems to have is this right?
many thanks guys!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

If you are looking for employment opportunities as well, then I would go down the AAT route.

I myself have ICB qualifications, which is fine as I have my own practice and am (V slowly) getting clients. In hind sight, however, I would have prefered to have invested my money in the AAT.

If you were only going to your husbands bookkeeping, then I would have said that ICB or IAB would be sufficient and would also be the cheaper and quicker option.

I know our resident Guru will have something to say on this subject. So over to you Shaun.

Bill

You know me so well Bill,

Hi Fiona,

Welcome to the forum.

Before answering any specifics that you may have could I ask you to take a look at this thread which I feel may answer all of your questions :

http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?aBID=106474&p=3&topicID=34759455

Happy to answer any questions that this may raise.

In short though your right, IAB or ICB may be fine in many circumstances but for a great all round qualification that will set you up for a career in accountancy AAT is very difficult to beat.

Hope to talk later,

Kind regards,

Shaun.

AAT is pretty much the best qualification you can have, however it does require you to back it up with experience, however (I love that word), I don't think there is a qualification on the planet that doesn't require practical experience to make it all fit together.

Study for the AAT, do your husbands books and watch the pieces fall into place,(use sage so you can do the inevitable corrections ), and you will be fine,..... imo.
