Friendly Society........
Permalink Closed

I have had an enquiry from a working mens club, apparently one of their members saw me present the accounts at another club's agm and they would like me to do the work. Currently they are being charged £6k for bookkeeping and final accounts etc and I would do it for about £4k, so it's a job worth having....however, this club is run under the auspices of The Friendly Society. Has anyone had any experience of them? I have this nagging feeling that they will only accept accounts from a registered auditor but can't find anything out about this. If this is the case, does anyone have any idea of what a registered auditor would charge to sign off the accounts? All my ACCA and CTA types are not registered auditors (to be honest I don't know what the threshold is any more, about £5million????).

My other enquiry of the day was from a doctor, who is s elf employed, employed, setting up a company for doing cosmetic surgery and joining a partnership in July. Not seeing him until next week so I will have to do a bit of homework on that one! I bet there are peculiar rules about doctors too! (that was a referral by the way...network, network, network!)

Rob,

if you need a top notch registered auditor (ICAEW) let me know and I'll pass her your details.

This one was young accountant of the year so she really knows her stuff and genuinely cares about her clients... She's also one of the nicest people on the face of the planet.

Shaun.

Does she also have one of the nicest faces on the planet?

Well if I need an auditor (which I think I will do), it will largely come down to cost. The client is looking to save money, I think they had a deficit of about £4k this year, so a £2k saving on the accountancy fee goes a long way to addressing this, but of course if the auditor wants £1k plus then it suddenly becomes less viable unless I absorb the charge which is not beyond the realms of possibility. Shaun would you ask her when you next see her for a ball park figure for (i) signing off prepared accounts and (ii) finalising the accounts from the bookkeeping.

Thanks alot Amigo!

Did I read the revenue were taking a close look at Doctors currently or was that just GP's?
Got 2 very polite refusals from local accountants today for free work experience but won't let that put me off! Got one new client yesterday , it's a tiny job but who knows what it may lead to.
Regards
Tony

Good news on the client Tony. I remeber picking up a job a few years ago to do a small payroll. I charged them £25 per month (in fact I still do). they now have two day care nurseries and that £25 per month is now an annual fee of around £2k, so you are right it may lead elsewhere. Also I like lots of small jobs more than the bigger ones. it normally means I am not out of my depth and also if you lose a small job it matters far less. I know a local accountant who had two big clients, and of course he ended up losing one and that was half his income down the pan.

Keep it up with the accountants, something will come up.

This guy is a GP (locum), he gets about £8k per month, his fiancee is also a GP. Where sis I go wrong??????

Hi Rob,

Yes, one of the nicest faces on the planet as well.... Well, when I catch a glimpse of it as the pedestal that I've got her on is pretty high.

I think that she would need to see the books and the client before giving a quote. If it's not a full audit that your looking for (which would get expensive) I'm sure that you should be able to work something out with her.

If you don't mind I'll give her your number and get her to talk to you directly.

cheers Amigo,

Shaun.

Hi Rob,

just spoken with her but she's in the car at the moment. She's already got one friendly society so I think definitely someone that you want to talk to.

I'm just texting her the 99 00 30 number. So think that she'll give you a call as soon as she gets home.

cheers,

Shaun.

Thanks Shaun, I appreciate that. So long as she rings before the mighty Spurs take on the Cottagers then I may still be here! Shall I mention your adoration of her face?!!wink
