AAT intermediate home study
Permalink Closed

As the title suggests I will be interested in doing the AAT intermediate, but I don't have the time to go to college (kids and so forth), so would like to do it from home.

I rang BPP and they have given me the prices for the simulations and exams and I can source any learning media cheap.

However my question is, how hard is this going to be self tutored? I have a good grasp of the work we have done in the foundation and the last bit about journals and TB to me is the easiest bit. I may be able to source some materials including skills tests and formula sheets from college as some people I know will be studying at college at the same time.

Has anyone done the Intermediate and how difficult was it ?

Thanks for your time

Regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

I have the intermediate and did it through a locla college Long distance learning. To be honest its OK doing it from home, we had a moodle that we could go on and go through it bit by bit and they were meant to be able to watch from that and see how well you do etc bit like bog brothere watching, but after a while I did it mainly form the text books, I think I only phoned for help a couple of times, but at the time I didn't work in bookkeeping I was in Sales so I was at a disadvantage regarding putting in to practice what you learn.

I would say if you are very diciplined it would be fine. I found Unit 6 (I think it was) FRA the hardest, thats the financial bit and I found revenue and costings ECR OK but I know people who have thought the other way round. Also I find the skills tests are harder than the exam itself. The skills test are more indepth.

If you want a training provider just for guildance and to help you on your way but still study from home then try Premier Training, they are very good and reasonable compared to others. Regarding past papers if you are a student with AAT which I presume you are then you can go on their website put your student number in and you can obtain loads of past papers. Word of warning, go on it and down load them and save them in a file on the PC for future reference, leading up to an exam once because everybody was on the website, it crashed and I couldn't get anymore past papers for a day or so until they had fixed the problem.

HTH and good luck
Amanda

I  think i'll give it a crack, i'm pretty sure anything I get stuck on I'll find the answer somewhere and I tend to be reasonably disciplined when I enjoy what i'm doing.

Thanks for the advice

I took the ICB through distant learning without problems but I am glad I attended night school for the AAT Intermediate because there are some areas in the syllabus where I think a tutor is required, as text books don't go that in-depth as a good tutor.

Hello. Steve I studied with AT Foulkes Lynch By distance learning years ago and i passed the Intermediate Level Costing Paper and Also the Financial Accounts Paper at Intermediate Level.
Distance learning is a good option if you find it difficult to commit yourself to Weekly visits to College. BPP are a good training provider. I dont know what the overall cost of tuition would be.
BUT I DO KNOW IT REQUIRES DISCIPLINE TO STUDY AT HOME.

Bpp sound ok, I've been looking at kaplan and premier training and they are all give or take a £100 the samish price. I need to ring them all really and see what they have to offer pricewise and the locations of their test centres.

I should be ok with the discipline, I enjoy learning and I enjoy this particular subject so hopefully I will be ok.

Thanks for all the advice everyone I shall let you know who I'm going with once I've called them all up.

Steve
