Does anybody have any experience of the above? A new client of mine is downloading it to use (only for a few employees). I have experience of Sage payroll and Quickbooks payroll, but not this one. I have downloaded a trial version to get to grips with it. I expect most of the payroll software is basically the same.
Hello Pauline I have not used Moneysoft Payroll Manager but like yourself have used Sage Payroll. which i used for dealing with the Clients in an Accountancy Practise. It may be of help to visit Money soft web site which is www.moneysoft.co.uk/pm_pay.htm which gives you some advise on the software hope this helps.
Don't be scared. It's an excellent system, and sooooo easy to use.
The reporting is excellent, so you can always see how they have calculated the tax and NI. Its cheaper than Sage Payroll, and can hold more employees than Sage Instant Payroll (the reason I had to change was we took on the 11th employee).
It does all the online filing you need as well.
Only thing it doesn't do, that I know Sage does it to get your HMRC messages into it. You need to do that bit via the HMRC website.
Many thanks everyone for your replies. I'll let you know how I get on!
Liz, what did you mean by getting your HMRC messages into it?
Pauline
If HMRC send you P9's, you have to log on via the HMRC website to get them. They do not come into Payroll Manager.
Payroll Manager handles the submission og P14/60, P35, p45/46, and recevied confirmations of these submissions, but not other things HMRC send you....unless of course anyone knows differently (to quote That's Life - showing my age, I guess).
If your client has enrolled with HMRC they will have given an email address. All the messages from HMRC go to this address and you just log onto HMRC to view them.
If they haven't enrolled they need to do so either themselves or via yourself as an Agent.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Actually haven't started using this yet. The previous bookkeeper had registered as an agent, so I will now have to register the company with HMRC in its own right.
The employees of the company are paid a set net pay each month and then the bookkeeper used to "back calculate" the NI and PAYE each month (or that's what the owner told me). Is this an acceptable way of doing things and if so, how the hell do you calculate it? Sorry, not very experienced in payroll yet.
Lol....thanks Liz. I'll be looking at it tomorrow when I'm in. I've already downloaded the trial version but haven't had a chance to look at it yet! Just needed the confirmation that this was an ok way to do it
Yes, getting on ok with it. Only used it twice of course, with April and May payroll, but it seems to be quite straightforward to use. Haven't come across any unusual transactions to enter yet though.

Are you thinking of using this yourself?
Pauline
I'm going to download it shortly. I sent them an e-mail with a query (holiday pay from a holiday credit fund which isn't subject to national insurance deductions) and they said it could deal with that. I also noticed it was capable of coping with a Scottish Tax - is there something I'm not aware of? They never mentioned this in their election campaign.

The part about receiving HMRC notifications is, for me, such a great thing, everythign in one place and it also applies those changes for you automatically on the push of a button!
Does anyone know any other software that does this? Its good to find all those querks, as although most software does the calculations, what are the extras that you pay so much for that make life so much easier?
Do you mean any other software apart from Sage that does this. As that option does make life a whole lot easier when dealing with payroll notifications.
I've been using Moneysoft Payroll for a couple of months now, having previously used Tas Payroll for many years. I've found it really easy to set up and navigate around, and there is a good selection of reports. Compared to Tas it does just as a good a job at an absolute fraction of the price!!

Hi, I don't really like this way of doing things even though I do so all the time. It insulates the employee from the tax system. They don't feel any rise in the rate of tax, nor feel any benefit if the budget increases allowances, as is happening under the coalition now. If an employee reaches 65, they may be put on code BR and the employer will have a raised tax bill (albeit with a lower NI cost). If someone has underpaid tax in a previous year, and this is coded out, the employer will just raise the gross.
If the present govt. were to serve a full term, I would like my client's to feel the benefit of their wages bill going steadily down as well as feeling the VAT rate going up.
Having said that, Payroll Manager and all Moneysoft products are great to use, but they're only updating the former these days.
I use Moneysoft payroll for my Payroll bureau. Its the easiest program to use, even works out the Childcare payments etc. It can also can workout gross pay from net pay if you need to.
I have a PAYE Desktop viewer on my PC which I've had since 2009. When I got it, it downloaded all the notices since 2006 for all the payrolls I have. This included notices from before I was the agent, and notices which I had not previously had! Its a HMRC application which allows employers and Agents to receive, store and view their code and notices on their own PC's. I only download the notices immediately before I start the payroll runs - normally just once a month. It has a facility to "action" notices so I know which ones have been done and which ones have not. Although I don't use it, it also has the facility to import and export notices to other Desktop Viewers (e.g. to a sub-administrator)
