Does anybody know anything about Getting British Business Online? They offer free .co.uk domain and webhosting. According to businesslink: Getting British Business Online aims to get 100,000 British small businesses on the internet by the end of the year. The year-long campaign is being headed up by Enterprise UK in partnership with BIS, Google and e-Skills UK, the sector skills council for business and information technology. Many other business support organisations, such as Business Link, are involved in supporting the initiative. I searched a bit on the net but not much about it and it,s all sound a bit too good to be true. where is the catch? Anybody any experience with them?
I answer my question. Tried them yesterday and they are not very good let,s just be polite. They are so not very good my advice is do not go anywhere near them...if anybody want a free web page there are other options out ther, you might have to pay for the domain but it is not significant money anyway. About get british business online, well thank you our government for another useless project.
Its probably another one of those initiatives where it's cost more to set up that if they had given everyone who wanted one the money for a domain name.
I think the classic so far was the mortgage relief initiative that cost millions and helped 15 people.
No wonder the countries in a mess. Role on us having a proper government again on May 7th.... Please oh please oh please don't let these muppets in for another 5 years.
Cheers for keeping us in the loop and hope that your having a good day,
Shaun

I have gone down this route to obtain a free domain and website. There are no catches, just that BT and Google have phoned trying to sell me their additional services.
Registration process was straight forward and very quick. I now use google sites software to manage it which is also included.
Check it out- I have only spent about 2 hours on the website so more work to be done. www.leicestershirebookkeeping.co.uk
The only question I have is why are you using your website to promote other bookkeeping services through google ads? Surely this defeated the purpose of you having a site?
The views expressed in this post are my own personal (HRA protected) views, and are not representative of any organisation I have any involvement with.
You state in your website that you are in the process of completing your ICB qualification. I assume that your have a practicing certificate and MLR cover already in place?
Also, you go on to state that membership of the ICB means that you can access accountants? Again, why are people using your services if your telling them that you may need to pass their details onto someone more qualified.
Also, you cant use the line that you are "in the process of becoming a member of the ICB" immediately preceding a line that states "As a member of the ICB". The two are mutually exclusive.
I agree with Marks point about why are you running ads for other bookkeepers?
The Payroll page states £5 per employee but it does not state what period this covers. Is this £5 per week / month / quarter / year?
You state that you are offering Self assessment returns. Being ICB you have passed the self assessment paper haven't you?
Not a good idea to tell clients that there is no contract or at least not use it as a selling point.
Have you compared your prices against other local bookkeepers?
As you state, still a lot of white space that needs filling at the moment.
Good luck with getting up and running.
Kind regards,
Shaun.
