Best software

I'm considering setting up my own bookkeeping practice and wondered what the best software to use for multi-companies is. I am guessing its Sage 50 but are there any serious alternatives? Any help much appreciated.

Morning Del,

Welcome to the forum.

VT Transaction+ is as favorite amongst bookkeepers as it's spreadsheet based and very reasonably priced. I think that the limit is 100 companies but it could be unlimited.

Sage is expensive but may become necessary if you have clients who use.

Another one is quickbooks which falls in the love it or hate it category.

If you've just got small clients with shoe boxes full of receipts and bank statements I would go with VT transaction+.

Don't forget to budget for a copy of Excel which is probably about the most used peice of software that most of us have on our machines.

All the best,

Shaun.

I use VT Transaction. I do like Sage, but it is very expensive and an unnecessary expense for me at the moment. I would only buy Sage if my clients insisted on it but I think that most clients are happy for you to use whatever software you prefer, it doesn't really matter to them what you use to complete their accounts.

Another vote for VT Transaction.

I also use Solar Accounts (one off licence for £99 and that allows it to be set up on 3 different PC's / Laptops) and this covers as many companies as you want; there are no limits.
