Balance sheet doesn't balance using TAS Books 1
Permalink Closed

I am just doing a client's year-end and noticed that the Balance Sheet doesn't balance.

Surely that's just not possible using TAS?

Has anyone got any ideas why and how I can fix it?

Just had a flash of inspiration - must check the COA tomorrow, see if something's dropped out somewhere.

I take it the trial balance does balance?

If not then you have a problem, possibly a program error. If it does then yes it's most likely to be the COA.

Yes, the TB balances.

There is a glitch - some entries on the bank account refuse to be reconciled. They don't total the amount of the difference on the balance sheet though.

Thanks for your reply, Carole.

If you go through the balance sheet with your trial balance handy, grouping all the balances under the categories in the balance sheet it shouldn't take long to find what area of the COA the problem lies. This may save some time.

I wouldn't think the unreconciled bank items should have anything to so with it.

Ha! My thinking exactly, Carole.

Been there, done that - then realised that the profit figure on the P & L didn't match the retained profit figure on the Balance sheet!

Doh - it's a system account so nothing to be done except have a moan at TAS techies.

Hi Janine

I don't know if it would be any use to you but there is a TAS users forum on UKBF here - Tas Users Forum - I know the people from TAS go on there so they may be able to find a solution for you.

Kind regards

Zöe
